TYLOO, NASR, and The MongolZ have all made it past their regions' last open qualifiers leading up to the IEM Rio Major
The second set of IEM Road to Rio open qualifiers for the Asia, China, and Middle East region have come to an end. The second Oceana Open Qualifier is yet to begin, and will play out from August 22-23 to determine the regions' last two teams progressing to the closed qualifier. The four qualified teams from each region will battle it out in the closed stage, which is set to begin on August 27, for one spot in the Asia RMR.
In the China Open Qualifier, TYLOO and Wings Up claimed the two closed qualifier spots on offer. Both teams fell short in the first round of open qualifiers and placed only 3-4th, but this time around were able to claim reverse-sweep victories in their deciding matches and keep their RMR hopes alive. Zhenghao "DANK1NG" Lv and Junhao "ChildKing" Peng were key factors in their teams' success through their massive fragging output in their final series against WDNMD and CR, respectively.
ARAVT and The MongolZ made quick work of their respective brackets in the Asia Open Qualifier, and didn't drop a single map en route to a closed stage spot. Bold "ncl" Batsuh's squad triumphed in the only open qualifier they attended, meanwhile ARAVT bounced back from their shortcomings at the first Asia open qualifier where they lost the spot-decider to NKT.
Finally, in the Middle East Open Qualifier, it was JPB and NASR who topped their respective brackets and secured their places in the closed qualifier. The pair steamrolled through their matches as Abd-Alrahman "REAL1ZE" Arabiat and company only dropped three rounds across both maps in their decider, and Saad "PokemoN" Ahmad put up a series-high 52 kills against Ooredoo Thunders to drive his team to victory.
The closed qualifiers for the Asia, China, Middle East, and Oceania regions will run from August 27-28, in which only one team each will advance to the Asia RMR in October.
